Install Awesome Claude Code Toolkit (2026)

The Awesome Claude Code Toolkit curates 135 agents, 35 skills, 42 commands, and 176+ plugins. Unlike a CLI tool, it is a directory — you browse, evaluate, and install individual tools from their source repositories. Here is how to do it efficiently.

Prerequisites

  • Claude Code installed
  • Git installed
  • Node.js and/or Python (depending on the tools you choose)

Step 1: Access the Toolkit

git clone https://github.com/rohitg00/awesome-claude-code-toolkit.git ~/claude-toolkit

Or browse directly at github.com/rohitg00/awesome-claude-code-toolkit. The README is the catalog.

Step 2: Navigate by Category

The Toolkit organizes entries into four main sections:

Agents (135) — Behavioral configurations that change how Claude works. Categories include: coding agents, review agents, documentation agents, testing agents, and framework-specific agents (React, Django, Rails, etc.).

Skills (35) — Focused capabilities you add to Claude. Categories include: refactoring, debugging, deployment, and security analysis.

Commands (42) — Custom slash commands. Categories include: project management, code generation, testing, and DevOps.

Plugins (176+) — Extensions that add functionality. Categories include: code quality, testing, documentation, deployment, monitoring, and database management.

Step 3: Evaluate Before Installing

For each entry you are considering:

  1. Click through to the source repository
  2. Check the star count (higher = more community trust)
  3. Check the last commit date (recent = actively maintained)
  4. Read the README for installation instructions and requirements
  5. Check open issues for unresolved bugs

A quick evaluation script:

# Check a repo's health signals
gh repo view owner/repo --json stargazerCount, pushedAt,description

Step 4: Install a Tool

Installation varies by tool type. Common patterns:

Agent (CLAUDE.md modification):

# Clone the agent repo
git clone https://github.com/author/agent-name.git /tmp/agent
# Copy the CLAUDE.md content to your project
cat /tmp/agent/CLAUDE.md >> /path/to/your/project/CLAUDE.md
rm -rf /tmp/agent

Command (slash command):

# Create commands directory if needed
mkdir -p /path/to/your/project/.claude/commands
# Copy the command file
cp /tmp/tool/commands/review.md /path/to/your/project/.claude/commands/

Plugin (npm package):

npm install -g some-claude-plugin

Step 5: Verify the Installation

Start Claude Code and test the installed tool:

claude

For agents, give Claude a task that should trigger the agent behavior. For commands, run the new slash command. For plugins, trigger the plugin’s functionality.

Building a Curated Stack From the Toolkit

Instead of installing everything, build a focused stack. Here is a proven approach:

Step 1 — Pick one agent per role:

  • One coding agent (language-specific: Python, TypeScript, Rust, etc.)
  • One review agent
  • One testing agent

Step 2 — Pick 3-5 commands for your daily workflow:

  • A review command
  • A test generation command
  • A documentation command
  • A deployment command (if applicable)

Step 3 — Pick 2-3 plugins for code quality:

  • A linter integration
  • A formatter integration
  • A security scanner

Step 4 — Test each independently: Install one component at a time. Run a real task to verify it works. Only add the next component after confirming the previous one behaves correctly.

Step 5 — Document your stack: Keep a list of what you installed and why. When it is time to update or troubleshoot, you will know exactly what is in your setup.

Evaluating Toolkit Entries Quickly

The Toolkit has 176+ plugins. You cannot evaluate them all. Use this 60-second evaluation checklist:

  1. Star count > 100? If not, the tool may be too niche or unmaintained
  2. Last commit < 3 months? If older, the tool may not work with current Claude Code
  3. README has install instructions? If not, skip it
  4. Open issues < 20? Too many open issues suggest maintenance problems
  5. License compatible? Check before using in commercial projects

If a tool passes all five checks, it is worth trying. If it fails two or more, move on to the next option.

Troubleshooting

Too many choices: Start with the most-starred entries in each category. They are the safest bets for quality and maintenance. Limit yourself to 3 new tools per week.

Tool conflicts: Installing multiple agents that modify CLAUDE.md can create conflicting instructions. Install one at a time and test before adding more. If agents conflict, keep the one that produces better results and remove the other.

Plugin requires configuration: Some plugins need API keys or config files. Read the plugin’s README carefully before assuming it is broken. Look for .env.example or config.example files in the plugin repo.

Tool is abandoned: If a tool’s repo has no commits in 6+ months, consider alternatives. The Toolkit may list it but the tool itself may be outdated. Check the Issues tab for signs of life from the maintainer.
