Best Claude Code Skills in 2026

The Claude Code ecosystem has exploded with community-built skills, frameworks, and tools. This ranking is based on GitHub stars, active maintenance, practical impact, and community feedback as of April 2026.

How We Ranked

Each skill is scored on four criteria:

  • Community adoption (GitHub stars and forks)
  • Practical impact (how much it improves daily workflows)
  • Maintenance (recent commits, active issues, responsive maintainer)
  • Ease of use (setup time, documentation quality)

1. Awesome MCP Servers — The Essential Directory

What it does: Catalogs 200+ MCP servers across 30+ categories, connecting Claude Code to databases, APIs, browsers, and cloud services.

Why it is ranked #1: MCP servers are the single biggest force multiplier for Claude Code. Without them, Claude is limited to local files and bash. With them, Claude can query databases, call APIs, browse the web, and manage cloud infrastructure. This directory is the gateway to all of that.

Stars: ~85K

Install: Browse at github.com/punkpeye/awesome-mcp-servers, then install individual servers.

Limitation: It is a directory, not a tool. You still need to install and configure each server individually. See the MCP setup guide for help.

2. Karpathy Skills — The Behavioral Foundation

What it does: A single CLAUDE.md file with four principles (Don’t Assume, Don’t Hide Confusion, Surface Tradeoffs, Goal-Driven Execution) that improve Claude’s reasoning quality.

Why it is ranked #2: The highest impact-to-effort ratio of any Claude Code tool. Copy one file and Claude immediately produces fewer bugs, asks better questions, and surfaces tradeoffs you would have missed. Every developer should start here.

Stars: ~72K

Install:

curl -o CLAUDE.md https://raw.githubusercontent.com/forrestchang/andrej-karpathy-skills/main/CLAUDE.md

Limitation: Behavioral principles only — no commands, no agents, no tools. Pair with a framework for structured workflows.

3. Awesome Claude Code — The Master Index

What it does: Curated index of the entire Claude Code ecosystem: skills, hooks, commands, orchestrators, plugins, and learning resources. Also available at awesomeclaude.ai.

Why it is ranked #3: The best starting point for discovering tools. Strict curation means every listed entry meets quality standards. The website adds search and filtering.

Stars: ~40K

Install: Bookmark github.com/hesreallyhim/awesome-claude-code or visit awesomeclaude.ai.

Limitation: Curation is opinionated — some quality tools are excluded. Cross-reference with Awesome Toolkit for broader coverage.

4. Claude Howto — The Visual Learning Accelerator

What it does: Visual guide with Mermaid diagrams and copy-paste templates covering all Claude Code features.

Why it is ranked #4: Cuts the learning curve from weeks to days. The Mermaid diagrams communicate architecture and workflows faster than any text documentation. Templates provide immediate productivity.

Stars: ~28K

Install:

git clone https://github.com/luongnv89/claude-howto.git

Limitation: May lag behind latest Claude Code features. Cross-reference with official docs.

5. Claude Task Master — The AI Project Manager

What it does: Parses PRDs into structured task lists with dependency tracking and MCP integration for autonomous task execution.

Stars: ~27K

Install:

npm install -g task-master-ai && task-master init

Limitation: Best for solo developers. Team collaboration features are limited. See Task Master vs GitHub Issues.

For more on this topic, see Claude Code Skills Reference.

6. Claude Code Templates — The Component Library

What it does: CLI tool providing 600+ pre-built agents, 200+ commands, 55+ MCP configs, and more. Web UI at aitmpl.com.

Stars: ~25K

Install:

npx claude-code-templates@latest

Limitation: Individual templates are independent — no framework-level coherence. Assembly is your responsibility.

7. SuperClaude Framework — The All-in-One Solution

What it does: 30 slash commands, 16 agents, and 7 behavioral modes as a unified framework.

Stars: ~22K

Install:

pipx install superclaude && superclaude install

Limitation: Can conflict with custom commands and other frameworks. Test in isolation first.

8. ccusage — The Cost Tracker

What it does: CLI that parses local JSONL logs to show per-session, per-project Claude Code costs.

Stars: ~13K

Install:

npx ccusage

Limitation: Cost calculations use API rates, not Max subscription pricing. Use for relative comparisons.

9. Claude Code System Prompts — The Insider Knowledge

What it does: Extracted system prompts showing Claude Code’s internal instructions, all 24 tool definitions, and sub-agent prompts.

Stars: ~9K

Install:

git clone https://github.com/Piebald-AI/claude-code-system-prompts.git

Limitation: May be outdated for the latest Claude Code version. Use for understanding, not as a configuration source.

10. Claude Code Ultimate Guide — The Knowledge Base

What it does: 22K+ lines of documentation with 271 quiz questions and threat modeling coverage.

Stars: ~4K

Install:

git clone https://github.com/FlorianBruniaux/claude-code-ultimate-guide.git

Limitation: Requires hours of study to benefit fully. Not a quick-start resource.
